The game of soccer has come a long way in America. Did you know, the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) was formed in 1904? On April 1, 1905, Haverford College and Harvard University came together in the first modern-day intercollegiate soccer match where the Fords won, 1-0. Fast forward to 1994 World Cup – the World Cup was hosted by America where over 3.4 million attended matches, breaking the record of attendees by over 1 million previously held by Italy just 4 years past.

Now, here we are watching the Women’s World Cup where fans spent over $3.4 million on tickets at an average of $374. In this, keep in mind those have been considered bargain prices compared to a seat at the men’s World Cup final in Brazil last year. The average resale price was $5,508. The most expensive seats for the July 5, 2015 championship match sold at an average of $664, according to some reports, while the cheapest nose-bleed seats sold at $243. This 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup is the seventh FIFIA Women’s Cup.

On July 5, 2015, the United States defeated Japan in the battle for the championship in the World Cup Final soccer match. If this isn’t the sweetest revenge for the USWNT, which lost to Japan in the 2011 final on penalty kicks. Celebrating on the day after July 4th, the  USA took the win for the first time since 1999. What a game! What a game! Carli Lloyd scored three of the five goals:   one from midfield before half time to give U.S. a 4-0 lead. Japan, did fight back in the second half, keeping the tension high. Tobin Heath finished things with a goal in the 54th minute, giving U.S the victory. Way to go United States!
