In Memory of Queeny
The Lord gives and the Lord takes away and even in a pet situation, it is heartbreaking.
I lost “Queeny” today. She had a short life as an Orpington hen. She is also the one I thought may have been a roo but I will truly never know, although most comments confirmed her as a Buff hen.
This morning, I waited until about 9:00 a.m. to let the chicks out of their coop because it was nippy and the sun doesn’t shine on their run until about that time. I wanted them to be able to come out into the warm sunshine to eat and begin their daily peck and play.
When the chute opened, only 3 hens and Buster ran out. I looked far into the coop and saw nothing so I knew in my heart something was dreadfully wrong. And it was. Queeny was gone from this world.
Sophie, my dachshund was with me the at the time and I told her about our loss. She just looked at me unknowingly. For safety of flock and puppy, I took Sophie inside, changed clothes and took care of Queeny respectfully and in a dignified manner. We have a pet graveyard at the back corner of our land.
Losing an animal is a sorrowful event. That ‘s all I can say for now.
