Until 2013, I didn’t know what a onesie was now, I’m wearing one in public! LOL!
Yes, I’m referring to a one-piece bathing suit. Let me be clear, I am under the age of forty and to be honest, I feel down right comfy in a bikini and have not worn a one-piece since my mother had me in one when I was a toddler! And trust me. She had me in a one-piece forever along with dresses to the ankle and high neck lines. It’s just my Mom, then and now.(Love you Mom!)
Fast forward to my sister Kristie and our 1016 beach house days. The one-piece was long gone and continued until yesterday. After a recent party that had a lot of toddlers and moms, I noticed that only 2 moms there had on a “rocking- hot” bathing suit and I was one of them. After some of the looks I got, I broke down and later bought a one-piece in order to “keep up with the Jones'” And who are the Jones’ anyhow?
However, since becoming a mom in this pool party group, I suddenly felt naked when I burst out (no pun intended) in my two piece. I can see now, it may be an unspoken rule: “No bikinis after child birth?” I’m not sure yet about this but as I blog, I’m working out my feelings about it so bare with me.(No pun there either!) LOL again!
Let me say, I realize I am no model. My body is not chiseled or rock hard but I am far from Patrick Star (you know that character from Sponge Bob Square Pants). I do not want to be “that mom” though that others might talk about after the pool party is over or while I stroll across the pool area to help my toddler into the kiddie pool. Ouch! Not a good thought!
There used to be a mom that came to our class parties in school. I remember her well. She always wore “Daisy Duke” short-shorts. I was a 4th grader and I remember how short, short they were, so looking back, I can’t imagine the scuttle in the teacher’s lounge and among parents about her tighties so yes, I’m thinking about my bikini!
I understand those who say “leave something to the imagination” but puh-leeze! Be honest ladies. What one-piece makes you feel young ? I will answer that “NONE!”
I know a belly-bearing swim suit may not be for all of us but for those who feel comfortable in them, flaunt it! Don’t get me wrong, I always rocked a onesie, I mean, a one-piece,back in tha’ day when we even had a jacket to go over the suit. LOL! My mom never let us watch any movies past the G rating, of course I wore a one-piece my entire childhood, as mentioned above. ( Love you again, Mom!)
After the pool party last week and after purchasing a one piece, I tried it on and sashayed across our living room floor so my husband could see it. His response “What is that?” “Grandma’s?” I told him, I had felt indifferent about wearing a bikini in certain situations. He did not understand and gave me a strange look when I tried to give him a few examples.
Being faced with all this has been quite funny but also has opened my eyes to perceptions. Who are we to look to anyone and judge? If a girl has the confidence to wear a bikini, let her rock the heck out of it. We should all wear what makes us feel fabulous and comfy, no matter what our age is or not? ( You see, I’m still on the fence here).
All this being said, I’ll be wearing my onesie during kid-friendly events to keep the chatter down but I’d really like to know what you think about this. Please share your thoughts on our Facebook or Twitter page.
