Another sweet baby is soon to arrive so we gather to celebrate. What better way to congratulate than to throw a party. Yes, I am talking about a baby shower to honor new life. There are so many things to be done: decor, food, activities, invitations, location, guest list and more. Anyone can host a baby shower from co-workers to family members. The most important thing to remember is to highlight the new Mama, Daddy and the new arrival to come!
The baby shower date has been set and it pleases me to have been nominated for decor and entertainment. Truthfully, I would have never picked this category myself but others must have seen in me something I don’t know, so decor it is!
Actually, I’m kind of excited and certainly honored to be given this task. In my eye’s view, I am more of an all-around planner. I’ve been told for many years that I’m bossy and even today when I hear this, I look shocked as if I’d heard that for the first time. Ha! I am one that likes being in charge though, and I realize this is true. You know the bossy gal, supervising and giving orders but don’t get me wrong, I’ve got my sleeves pulled up and I’m busy too! I am a kindly-soul too so I don’t just bark out orders but have a sweet tone in my voice of which I truly mean! I’m what personality gurus call the “feeling type”; tender and sensitive.
While cheesy shower games are fun to me, I have been strictly informed not to play any on this particular occasion so we won’t. This mom-to-be wants to make the event co-ed , adult friendly and include family groups in the room. Wow! What a combination but okay… So, the more sentimental route is the way we’re taking this party!
To meet this need, I knew I needed sweet, thoughtful party ideas that the parents could reflect on later. Keeping all decor and games simple was key and to focus on the mother-to-be(and of course daddy too!) was a major goal.
A fun card was developed that we placed at the front entry for arriving guests. I had them printed them on white card stock and provided colored sharpies for guests to fill them out. Once completed, guests placed them in a cute decorated box. The Mom & Dad-to-be would open them at home and read the special moments together at a later time. I thought I’d maybe suggest they open the box on the baby’s 1st month birthday or something but no matter. Anytime they read these love letters from friends, they will enjoy. The funny answers might even lighten the mood on those sleepless nights to come.
Social media is so big these days. If you are a photographer in this day and time and attend a party like this, you have hit the jackpot for your friends. Who doesn’t want their pictures taken these days? In years past, folks might, shy away but now, it IS the in thing! What a great way to remember such a special occasion so, my husband helped me set up a photo booth area. Needing a few props, I decided to use a few of Precious Boys bottles, baby blankets, rattlers and more. Also, a few printable props were used as well. To add to and make it interesting, I also gathered things from round the house which also saved money. If you’re considering this, check out Michael’s Crafts and The Dollar Store.
As each of us know having a baby is such a special time. Those involved will never be the same. The grass from that moment on will never look greener and by providing a party, gifts and love for the new family, it is only the beginning. Here are a few personal gift ideas:
