Are you headed south for Disney with the kids or grandkids? Perhaps you’re going to Bike Week in Daytona and just maybe you’re interested in seafood? Maybe you live in the greater Jacksonville area and are looking for a new spot for lunch. Singleton’s is a must-visit, especially if you have little ones.
This shack has indoor/outdoor seating family style panic tables. The back porch is screened and on most days catches a nice breeze off the water. The seafood at Singleton’s Seafood Shack is fresh and by that I mean fresh off the water daily. It is a mom ‘n’ pop kind of place and it’s not fancy. It sits right next to the Mayport Ferry which you can watch pulling in and out from the rear deck. If you wave at the boat captain, he will blow his horn and wave back.
If you are on a blind date this may not be the place but if you are looking for tasty good ole’ oysters, fish or shrimp, this is your spot! The atmosphere is very rustic but most say it tastes like heaven. I recommend the sheepshead sandwhich. You won’t regret it. It’s fresh and prepared right there. All I can say is, get yourself over to Singletons and support the only localy owned shack left on the river.
I brought my camera and I hope you will too. If you time it just right you can see the boat come in with the fresh goodies and you can take in the view. Listening to the sea gulls and watching the pelicans is an added bonus. And, you can get your picture taken with the shrimp boats docked behind the shack. This is a hidden treasure here on the east coast with tons of free entertainment and great photo backdrops. We opted to support the ferry and take a ride. Nearby is Huguenot Park if there is time in the schedule.
