Do What I Say-Not What I Did

I was one in the bunch of the first internet users in terms of the early years when the net was spreading among “the folks”.  I go back to the early internet when the screen was grey and there was no icons or images.  So, that tells you it was in the early days.  Back in those days, Network Solutions was selling domain names and was the only store on the market.

Had I blogged back then and kept it going, I would have really had a site by now but I started and stopped, started and stopped and the rest is history. While I have had many nice websites, none have stayed consistent and its simply for lack of follow through.

So, do as I say, not as I did.  Here are 5 tips for having a successful blog:

1.  Blog daily-  Do not miss even one day to tell something to your readers on your blog.  Daily your readers are looking for information and ideas from you so give it to them.

2.  Think about your audience-  You have a following.  It may be huge and it even may be small but someone out there is cyberspace is reading what you’re writing so think about your audience and build your site to meet the needs of “that” group in your head.  “Build it they will come”.

3.  Back link your article.  Use your own article to introduce other article ideas that you have written.  This helps people see where you’re coming from completely on that topic.

4.  Put some type of clip  art with your article-  There are many sites that offer “free” clip art and there is public domain art available for your use. It dresses up your article and gives the article a fancy appeal to readers.

5.  Research and document your articles- There are many ways to give credence to your article including personal experience as well as researched ideas.  Using both will strengthen your opinion.

Most of all, have fun while blogging.  It’s great to offer opinions about things and especially if you find others are reading what you write.
