1960’s Desk Makes A Come Back: Swip Swap Find

Have I ever told you how much I enjoy shopping? Well, I do love to shop but I’m a list shopper.    Having never been a window shopper, I am usually not been tempted to buy things on a whim.  I usually go with a list and for the most part go for the items on that list. I’m not tempted to window or browse shop and have tried to stay true to that way of buying.

Browsing most always turns into a basket full of things I do not need but only want and more times than not, I’m sick when I get home and have purchased and spent money on things I really did not need.

Being a stay-at-home mom is wonderful but I often have to remind myself “The budget is real Katie”.  So, I work diligently at staying on point with the money situation or this sort of thing happens!

This week while minding my own business at home and away from the stores, my husband sent me a screen shot of a item listed on Swip Swap.  I was so excited and window shopped the item he was promoting.  It made me feel that I had a free pass to purchase it and yes, I did!

For some time, we have been searching for a computer desk. If you follow my blog, you know our home is matchbox small and finding a compact desk has been tough. When I saw this beauty, the hunt was over.  Hubby and I talked things over and decided to have a looks-see. Hours later we became the proud owners of a Sears Bonnet French Provencial Line Desk from the 1960’s.

Yes, we bought this beauty and couldn’t wait to get it home! The lines and structure make it look victorian which is totally my cup of tea. The price was a little high but it would have killed me to leave it behind. Wouldn’t you have felt the same way?  So, we bought it high price and all.

Buying something from a private owner does not come with guarantees  and there was definitely no returns so I did look over the piece carefully before buying.  Still, the biggest concern was our limited space. I would love to one day have a large office with tons of windows where I could use this desk for its aesthetic beauty.

The desk has made it home but does not have a final destination at the moment. While I’ve put in in several places in my mind, I cannot decide exactly where it will find its home.  I will be sure to keep you posted as it all comes together.  My husband says I move furniture around like musical chairs and maybe he’s right so you may get several postings about its “final” resting place. Ha!

In the mean-time, if you are in the market for a new piece of furniture please check out Facebooks Swip Swap pages in your local area.

Happy Swapping!
