One connection to Hemming Park is the JTA Skyway, an automated system offering an inexpensive and convenient service to downtown patrons and employees. The train station departs in approximate three minute intervals during peak hours and about every six minutes all other times.

It was originally designed as a public square.  This 1.5-acre was sold in 1866 to the city for $10 by the heirs of Isaiah D. Hart, the founder of Jacksonville. Later in 1977 the grass was removed, and the park was redesigned as a plaza. Currently the city is constantly putting life back into the park. Several police and park staff are on duty with it being manicured each day.

The park has now become a gathering place for many. Festivals, concerts, and art shows, including programs and activities are held in the park each year. If you live in oraround Jacksonville, Forida or are just passing through be sure to stop by, and relax a while. You might even play a game of checkers or chess.   Otherwise, the shady park is perfect for any gathering.
