5-ethnicity

#write 31 days-Day 16

A person’s ethnicity is a category whereby people with the same ancestral background, culture, common language and often skin color group together. Often groups of people identify ethnically when they live in certain regions. Generally speaking ethnicity falls under a group who has racial similarities and identity. According to Wikipedia, “The United States Census officially recognizes six racial categories: White American, Black, American, Native American and Alaska Native, Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander and people of two or more races; a category called “some other race”.

Biological classifications based on DNA were given by God. Only He set forth the development, functioning and reproduction of all known living organisms. God alone is the maker of man.

God has given you a certain “shade”. You may be light skinned. You may be tan. Your skin color could be of a pink or red tint. You could be extremely dark skinned but it is God who gave you your ethnicity and it was for His purpose known to Him. God reveals His purpose to man through His Word so if you really want to know why you are the ethnic person that you are, read His Word and live out its precepts.

My friend is a missionary in Haiti. I’ll never forget the story she told about how the village people, of dark skin, dark eye color and dark hair would come to the village just to see the lady with the red hair and freckles. It was because of that red hair and freckles that God used her to share the Good News of God with those of that ethnicity.

People are drawn to people for different and various reasons. Your very ethnicity could be the reason a person may listen to you, follow your example and even come to a saving grace in God.

God has a purpose in you as He created your and who you are.

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. Psalm 139:14
