Some people are giving. Some folks are greedy. There are those who want to hold on to the very end and control the destiny of others. People are certainly different.
When people die, they often remember others in their wills leaving them something, be it some small treasure or legacy and often money. Leaving people they love something is often a heritage offering of love and care.
I recently read an old tale about a greedy geezer who obviously had little love for his wife. While on his dying bed, one of his last wishes was that all of his money be buried with him. He wanted his fortune to go with him to the grave. He felt he had earned it, worked for it and it was obviously his to do with whatever he chose. He chose that it would go to his grave with him.
Can you imagine having money placed in your casket and knowing you’re leaving behind loved-ones who could use that money?
Such was the case here. The story I heard indicated that when his wife told her best friend of her plans to bury him with his fortune, her friend was incensed and couldn’t believe her ears. But it was true and the dutiful wife explained that as a Christian woman, she would do as she promised him.
After her husband’s death, she followed the plan as agreed upon. She would bury him with his entire fortune.
The coroner came, the funeral held and his body was lowered into the grave. At some point, the wife’s best friend ask her the obvious question- “You didn’t really bury him with his money, did you?” The woman replied, “Of course. I did exactly as I promised. I got together his entire fortune and put it in one bank account and wrote him a personal check. I even put it in his hand”.
(Retold old story. I hope you enjoyed it!)
