During a period of persecution of Christians in Rome, St. Valentine (Valentinus) was one aiding Christian couples by marrying them because of their love for one another. The Emperor Claudius II is said to have talked with Valentinus and Valentinus tried to convince the emperor to come to Christ. Upon that, he was condemned to death unless he would renounce his faith in Christ. Valentinus would not and was executed outside the Flaminian Gate February 14, 269.
So, in honor of St. Valentine, who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our Lord and Savior, we give gifts of love to one another.
As I look forward to celebrating Valentine’s Day with my new grand boy, I have wondered what to give him. I saw a huge 4 foot tall bear at Walmart. (Only $39.98). I looked at all of the cute 15 month old clothes and considered one of each of all the rows of candies on the February 14th aisle but I finally settled where I most always do…
on something practical.
I will give my grandson a small toy, a thumb drive and a box for future treasures.
He will personally benefit on Valentine’s Day by receiving the toy but the other items will remain at my house for future “collections”.
The thumb drive will record his life in photographs and images and the box will hold those tender treasures such as his hand and foot stamped at birth and other irreplaceable items.
Happy Valentines, Joy of My Life.
