The Great Smokies Lodging: Cabin Fever

Our adventure began with an unknown destination. It was a surprise Valentine’s Day getaway, thanks to Daniel, my husband. Somehow we ended up in the Great Smoky Mountains. Sevierville, Tennessee to be exact, which is right outside of Pigeon Forge.

I know what you may be thinking- “What about the precious one? Well, of course we brought him along. He could have stayed with Grandma but at 16 months, he would enjoy just being together with all of the new sights and we love him so. He was part of our Valentine get-a-way package!

We chose to drive and make it a road trip to remember.   Driving opposed to flying would give us the ability to stop when and where we wanted to, which is important with a toddler on board. Knowing the trip might be too long we were a little concerned but, we didn’t have even one melt down the entire car ride.

In route we contacted several cabin rental companies looking for lodging. Finally finding the perfect cabin we booked over the phone with American Mountain Rentals. Upon arrival we checked in at the main off in Pigeon Forge where we received our cabin entry code and other useful information.

As we drove up to our last minute retreat we were taken away by its beauty. It was “Simply Breathtaking” and our place to call home for the next 3 days was even more than we expected.

I will say, being a newbie to cabin rental left me a little unprepared. I am so use to packing for the tropical weather and this was much different. Upon departure I had compiled a Cabin Rental Packing Guide. This cabin was perfect for our little peas in a pod family. Three stories: Entry level: kitchen, dining area, living room with fireplace, full bath, large outside patio with “Simply Breathtaking” view and a hot tub. Basement: game room, living area, full bath, washer & dryer, and outside patio. Top floor: bedroom, jacuzzi tub, full bath and gas fireplace.

Both the common areas had pull out couches. This cabin would sleep 6 comfortably. If you are not opposed to airing your laundry (so to speak) with others, then this place could be shared with plenty of space and bathrooms. Please note there are no doors for privacy beside the upstairs bedroom and even that room has a wooden barn door that does not completely seal. Sharing this unit would have been hard for us with our  light sleeper.

“Simply Breathtaking” was in tip top shape and extra clean. The view was wonderful and we enjoyed the spacious house with several patios. The hot tub on the patio was a big hit. It was very cold getting in and out of but as long as your shoulders stayed submerged it was great. The cabins spread out and were in a gated community so we felt safe. This unit did not have internet, which presented a problem when I went to blog. It was kind of nice to be able to relax without the computer for a bit though. All three TV’s had satellite with several channels from which to choose. This home had well water with a high iron content .

I hope if you visit the area you will enjoy your cabin as much as we did ours.
