Day 15-(Writing 31 Days Project) My daughter mentioned that the majority of my writing was about Jesus and chickens. I had to laugh! If you follow my blog, you know that I have 47 chickens and a couple of roosters, Buster being a real beauty boy and Shaq being absolutely tall and stately. Except for my precious 2 year old grand child ( and family members of course, who would kill me if I wrote about them), what else is there? Jesus and chickens!
But, in honor of my oldest child, I’m not going to write about those two topics today but about the new guinea fowl that have come to live on our farm. First of all, we do have 5 runs of yard birds with enclosed tops and doors for security. There is a 9 acre plot on the south side of this land area and at the closest point to the birds is a fairly large pond which breeds all kinds of animals including squirrels, foxes, opossums, raccoons , rats, snakes and it’s been a while but even deer. So, for now and until these guinea get used to our area, they will be secured behind safety wire.
Our girls’s daddy wanted guinea fowl birds and two were added outside to the barnyard area until such time as both will be let go to free range here. I’ve wanted some “ginnys” for quite some time because I hear they are good watch birds and help keep down on the mosquitoes. Both are needed on this little mini-farm.
My bedroom is on the opposite side of the bird pen and so the ginnys are away from me. They are in a small run basically by themselves to allow them opportunity to get situated and feel secure in their new surroundings.
This morning, before daylight and really before the first cock a doodle do , I heard the most screeching sound coming from their run. It was so alarming that I got dressed and went to see what in the Sam Hill could bring about such a sound and sure as the world, it was those guineafowl! Something had upset them and they were pacing about just making all kind of ruckus! When I went out, they became even more worrisome as they are not used to me either. So, really my going out there just caused more noise and additional pacing! While I tried to talk sweet to them and truly wished I could grab them up in my arms to calm them, I know they’d probably have pecked my eyes out so I refrained! Ha!
I don’t know what upset them and it could simply be that they are pinned and not free. They could be unhappy with their new digs. Something could have spooked them. I don’t know but in only a couple of days, they will be let go to find their way. I’m told that because I have fed and watered them, they will stay close to their “home” if I consistently continue to do so. It isn’t that they are seeking me. It will be that I will be feeding them and they will respond.
That’s how it is with God. It isn’t me that goes to Him for the scripture says:
as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” “Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive.” “The venom of asps is under their lips.” “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.” Romans 3:10
It is Him who draws me. I’m so thankful that God is seeking to feed me. I will not be afraid.
