The gift of exhortation is one of accolades or admonition. When one is exhorted in the body of Christ, he is given high fives, so to speak concerning his spiritual growth or path. When one is admonished, one’s hands might be slapped in an effort to shake a person to the point of doing God’s Word such that his or her life might go well.
As we have learned there are varying gifts of God given for the common good of the body of Christ. It takes everyone’s gift to cause the body of Christ to run smoothly.
The internet definition of exhorting is “to address or communicate emphatically urging someone to do something”. So, in the body of Christ, this urging would be of a spiritual nature. This important emphasis on something would be that one’s spiritual life would be in order.
The person with the gift of exhortation is concerned about a person’s growth in God. He or she would use God’s Word to place emphasis on what “urging” is taking place. It would be for the concern of the walk with God to be true, solid and scriptural that this person would share.
This gift covers ideas, ideals, topics and information beyond the realm of man. The wisdom of this gift is far reaching and begins and ends with the revelation of God’s Word. In other words, what does God say about the topic, issue or concern at hand?
