The Dreamett Ice Cream Shop is almost a Florida landmark. It is located on Post Street in the Murray Hill area of the city of Jacksonville, Florida. It is a throwback to the 1950s. In fact, my Grandparents and Mother visited here as a child and remember it vividly.
The original old-school ice creamery is a stand alone white and blue building with walk-up ordering windows. The menu selection is wide with bargain pricing. The menu has been the same for the last twenty years and that alone should tell you something. Yes, The Dreamette has the usual array of classic flavors: strawberry, vanilla, chocolate, and swirl but they also have specialty shakes and out-of-this-world sundaes.
This old-school joint is cash only so don’t forget to stop by the bank on your way. It is also limited on seating with only two benches across the front. The weather is so warm here in “Sunny Florida”.
If you have a little one, like me, try to remember to bring a towel so the kids can relax and not be worried about the mess. You might also want to bring a wash cloth (damp in zip lock, for easy cleanup or use your baby wipes). Make sure to take a picture of yourself in front of this famous creamery and post it online. You never know how long it will be here. Hey, you could be the Grandparent in the picture one day!
