Sometimes there is an argument that no one can win. It is the wedge impasse.
The wedge is defined as “a piece of material, such as a metal or wood, thick at one edge and tapered to a thin edge at the other”.
The wedge impasse is that argument. It is when both parties of an disagreement hear the same information but process it completely different. In using the wedge as an illustration- When we look at the wedge some of us might see it from the tapered side. It is the same wedge but we see a thin piece of wood that gets larger as it goes upward. On the other hand, another person may see that same wedge of wood and see it from the large side which tapers down toward a small narrow edge. Both are looking at the same wedge but seeing it completely different.
Many times when two people see a situation in life, based on their upbringing, place in life, juncture at the time of the event, and information being examined, the two see that same info from a totally different perspective.
When this occurs, it is better to agree to disagree than to be mad about the difference of agreement for the rest of your lives. We can all live to agree to disagree.
My take on the argument that no one can win- The Wedge Impasse…
“Can’t we all just get along?”
“If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.”Romans 12:18
