Day 5- The #write31days is coming along nicely. Thank you to many offering encouragement for this effort. The topic is about 10 Things You Can’t Change About Yourself. Today- The Ancient of Days and You-
Can you imagine being surprised by the Queen of England and to find out she is in you and your friends’ selfie? Such was the case of Australian soccer player Jayde Taylor at a competition in 2014. Her comment on her Facebook page with the Queen in the background of the selfie said, “Ahhh The Queen photo-bombed our selfie”.
“TherearesomewhocallmeTim” tweeted: “Can you imagine going through your pictures later that day and seeing The Queen of England has photobombed you?” For the Queen of England to smile and take a selfie is grand but can you imagine being in the inner circle of “The Ancient of Days?” The Ancient of Days is the Creator of all. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. The phrase, “Ancient of Days” is one used in the book of Daniel and referring to the eternal God. Can you fathom talking to the eternal God, the Holy One of all, the I Am?
The Bible tells us that “whosever will” can indeed be in His presence day and night.
The Ancient of Days
God, The Ancient of Days reveals Himself through His Word, the Bible. It is imperative, if we are to know God that we read and hear His Word. We’re living in a day in which we have availability to His Word, not only through a hand-held copy of the Bible but through media resources so there is no excuse in this era that we don’t hear and read God’s Word every day. This Word, the Bible is a revelation from God and don’t we all love to have something exciting revealed to us! Author, Clarence Larkin writes: “ Holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit during a period of 160 years… The Bible consists of 66 separate books; 39 in the Old Testament, and 27 in the New. These books were written by about 40 different authors. By kings, such as David and Solomon; statesmen, as Daniel and Nehemiah; priests, as Ezra; men learned in the wisdom of Egypt as Moses; men learned in Jewish law, as Paul. By a herdsman, Amos; a tax-gatherer, Matthew; fishermen, as Peter, James and John, who were “unlearned and ignorant” men; a physician, Luke; and such mighty “seers as Isaiah, Ezekiel and Zechariah.”
God, The Ancient of Days had this book written for us that we might know him. One of the greatest sermons of all time is “Do You Know Him” by Charles Sermon based on the scripture in Philippians 3:10 “That I may know him”. He began sermon # 552 speaking of Paul, a converted man. “The object of the apostle’s life—that for which he sacrificed everything: country, kindred, honor, comfort, liberty, and life itself, was, that he might know Christ. Observe that this is not Paul’s prayer as an unconverted man, that he may know Christ, and so be saved; for it follows upon the previous supplication that he might win Christ and be found in him. This is the desire of one who has been saved, who enjoys the full conviction that his sins are pardoned, and that he is in Christ. It is only the regenerated and saved man who can feel the desire, “That I may know him.” Are you astonished that a saved man should have such a desire as this? A moment’s reflection will remove your astonishment. “
“ Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the Word of Truth. 2 Tim. 2:14
Larkin dedicated his book “Rightly Dividing The Word” to “The Divine Interpreter” The Holy Spirit who through the years has been my teacher and helper in “Rightly Dividing The Word.” Larkin was a mechanical engineer and when asked to teach a Sunday School class used his gifts and talents to draw charts to help others understand. Over time, Larkin became a member of the Episcopal Church but at the age of 32 was ordained a Baptist preacher pastoring his first church in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. Larkin’s works impressed many in the 20th century to serve God in sincerity. From Dispensational Truth( God’s Plan and Purpose in the Ages), The Spirit World, The Second Coming of Christ to Rightly Dividing the Truth, Larkin’s message was straight. God, (The Ancient of Days) and God (The Eternal One) alone can give purpose, offer truth and promise eternal life.
The question for each of us is: Are we willing to sacrifice country, kindred, honor, comfort, liberty, and life itself that we might “know Him” who created us?
“Everyone who is called by My name, And whom I have created for My glory, Whom I have formed, even whom I have made,” (Isaiah 43:7).
Our Purpose
As we are learning in this series, God has given us specific and certain things about ourselves unlike anyone else. There are certain truths valid only unto each person and thereby we can know that God had a purpose for each of us at birth.
Determining purpose is important and begins with knowing God. We must ask God for His wisdom.
“Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.” For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ. Corinthians
To determine purpose we must:
What gifts, and talents do you have?
Maybe you’re a natural artist. Perhaps you have the ability to debate which might set your mind towards becoming an attorney or politician. Is is possible that you’re organized and “together” such that you can run an office or lead an organization. You may have the ability to think, talk, write, work with your hands and the list goes on. Gifts are natural abilities. Talents are developed behaviors based on your gifts. All should be used to the glory of God and for His purpose.
Consider things uncomfortable in your life
In the story The Princess and the Pea, many girls were invited by the Queen to sleep in a palace bed in order to find a true princess. The Queen Mother wanted a suitable princess for her son, the prince. She placed a pea under the mattress and was hoping to find a girl who was so suited to the most perfect situation who would notice the pea and indicate her true- a princess with sensitivity. Over time and after many girls had slept in the bed, a bedraggled girl off the street knocked on the door needing a place to stay for the night. The Queen mother placed her in that bed. In the morning she told the Queen Mother how uncomfortable the bed was. She noticed the “pea under the mattress”. Of course, she became the prince’s love and it was a happily ever after story.
When things are uncomfortable in our lives, we complain, lament and try to avoid those problems. So it is with our purpose. We would want to do those things suited for us. We would avoid doing those things that are not ours to do. Are you doing things you should be doing? If not, ask God to reveal His purpose for you. The Ancient of Days created you for His purpose and glory and to give you life abundantly.
Pay attention to those around you-
A friend of mine is extremely neat and organized. Many times people that she knows invites her to their house to help them determine how to decorate, change the room for better efficiency or to simply get organized. People tell her often that she has this particular gift. What about you? What do people say you can and cannot do? Those around you can help you find your spiritual gift and God-given talent.
Experience your passions and inner urges
The top 10 inventors according to biographyonline.net are: Thomas Edison- filed over 1,000 patents and developed the electric light
2. The Wright Brothers who flew the first powered aircraft.
3. Benjamin Franklin- Discoved electricity
4. Nikola Tesla- Scientist who developed AC electricity
5. Charles Babbage- Created the first computer
6. James Watt- The inventor of the steam engine
7. Alexander Bell- Invented the first practical telephone
8. Leonardo Da Vinci- Artist and inventor of various models useable today
9. Galileo- Developed the telescope
10. Tim Berners Lee- Developed the protocol for the internet
We all cannot nor were created to be inventors but I listed these because of the passion behind their inventions. These inventors lived and breathed their ideas in order to have them come to pass. So it is with us. Each of us have passions, urges and desires to do. We should move forward as God lives in us. We should thrive on the things in which we love doing.
I’m hoping that you are considering who you are. God has a plan for you. He, the “Ancient of Days” has a reason for your being. Allow Him to live in you as you seek Him and His wisdom for your life.
