Many of us say we are Christians. We acknowledge that we’re followers of Christ. Some of us grew up in the church hearing from youth workers and our pastors of the commands Jesus gave telling his disciples to spread the Gospel or “good news”, but I often wonder how seriously this task is taken.
One thing I’ve learned though, is that everyone of us have been put on this earth by God for a purpose. Whether we realize this or not, if we’re truly a child of God, we’re to be a witness and should be about using the gifts and talents that we’ve been given by Him to go forth and tell others about the One who indwells us. If you’re His, that means you and yes, even if you’re shy, timid, unassuming or bold and business-minded. Our lives belong to God and we should be busy living out his Word.
Every day each of us have opportunity to share with others whether it be a friend, acquaintance, family member or even a person standing in line next to us at a grocery store. The question is, do we take that opportunity? If we could visualize that God set forth a divine appointment for us to meet someone or talk with a family member or share our own situation, maybe we would be more willing to do His work and will. Well, that is actually the case in our lives. Every individual whom we meet, spend time with or share with has a need to know Christ and we could be that very tool placed at that very time to bring that very person to the point of understanding. God uses His people. He uses you and me and we must be willing. And if you’re reading this and don’t know Him then pay close attention to those in your circle of influence who are talking to you about the Great I Am. It’s no accident. It’s divine.
In my own life, I find myself sharing the Gospel with family as well as with friends and acquaintances and who am I? I’m just an ole’ sinner. I have my own problems and issues in own personal life but I do know God and He has saved me from my own self. I can show others the Way, Truth and Life.
Sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ is important because someone shared with me and when I trusted, my life was never again the same. Too, the eternal destination of my family, friends and yes, even that person on the street whom I don’t even know his or her name, is important. My thought about it is that I just can’t leave their eternal destination to chance and, what if I was THE appointed person to share that very important eternal truth to them and didn’t! No, I must share. I must.
Oh, I understand that the responsibility to save a person from Hell is God’s but I will be held accountable one day for my part in that person’s life. After sharing with others, I realize this opportunity was mine and is mine each and every day. It is an opportunity I may not have again.
Do people push back? You bet they do, but that also is not my problem. That “push back” or rejection of God’s Word is not my concern. I’m appointed to tell, share and say what God has laid on my heart. His job is to bring them to a point of understanding and what I realize also is that people finding God often takes a long time. It takes time for some people to acquaint themselves with God but again, as a witness to the Truth, I must simply speak my heart and leave the rest to God and that’s what I’m going to do. I want to take this task more seriously in my own life What about you?
