My nephew came today to spend time with his grandfather who has alzheimers. Timmy loves his granddad and today was not his first visit to see him. He has kept up with him through the years with visits and calls. He has carried the parents out to eat, met them at various events and been a grandson to be proud.
He talked today about about how his grandfather taught him to fish, encouraged him to speak out, gave him conservative values and came to various programs in which he was involved. He was melancholy about the now slow progression of life with his granddad.
His grandfather did not recognize him today. When he spoke to him, he did raise his eyebrows a bit which was a positive indication but there was no conversation or actual communication. I believe though that he knew Tim was there and that was the important thing as far as I’m concerned, not only for his granddad but for Tim as well. It was good for him to share last moments with a man of 94 who has given and given to his family. Grand legacy for Tim to carry on the Vaughan name.
