Scandal in Heaven

Have you ever heard someone say “Scandalous!”?   A scandal is a publicized occurrence  that brings about possible embarrassment or shame.

We’ve all had incidents of scandal in our lives even dating back to elementary school.    I taught  in the classroom for 36 years and every child in the room at one time or another had a minor or major “scandal” .  Someone took someone elses pen, pencil, folder or personal belonging.   Some child said the wrong thing to another.  A near perfect child answered a question wrong which to that child would be a serious scandal.   With that many children in an open room, things just cannot be kept secret even if both the child and teacher try. Scandals happen. So it is in the world in which we live.  There are scandals in our lives.

Scandal in Heaven

In heaven though, there is perfection.  God is there. There is no sorrow, no worry, no problem and no shame. Thus, there is no scandal.

In looking at our lives here on earth however, our sin and wrong doing would certainly be scandal in heaven. If those in heaven could see what we are doing and view our behavior, they would say, “scandalous”!

The scripture says “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”  Jesus said those words to the disciples.  He was giving a plan for daily living.  His prayer was for us to live our lives “as those are living in heaven”.

How do we do that?  We’re sinners. We’re faulty. We’re weak. The scripture is clear on how we live  as near perfect as possible. “Let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus” and in Romans 12, it says: ” And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

So, how do we avoid scandal on earth?  We have the mind of Christ. ( WWJD- What would Jesus Do?) We also, live our lives “as if we’re already in heaven” and we do it by not doing as the world does but by renewing our minds toward the will of God.
