After having my son, it became evident that every moment counted. Truly, learning how to multitask became a thing on my bucket list of skills to learn. I did not really know what that word meant until becoming a mother but multitasking is a gift and a talent and one that I desperately want to know and know well.
It has taken me almost a year to really get settled into motherhood but here I am with a lot of experience under my belt but loads and loads to learn. I wanted to share one super helpful tool that has made my life and DanielBoy’s tummy a lot happier- A monthly meal plan.
This handy dandy calendar has been a life saver more times than I can count. You know, for a day like today where you are so busy and you get that text… “What’s for supper tonight?” Then you go into wife mode and are thinking, ” It’s not even noon and he’s thinking of supper!”
Why on earth is he thinking about supper and he hasn’t even gone to lunch? The last time this happened my “go to” response was “I will make anything your heart desires! lol! Ok, so maybe I didn’t say that but it would have been really sweet to respond that way. But because I tend to blurt out my true thoughts before thinking, I said “I have no idea”.
Poor DanielBoy! He really enjoys eating and here I am with no plan, and my hands are full with the baby all day. Thank heavens I live close to my Mom. She has come over from time to time since the baby was born and has set up the crock pot or whipped up a meal in no time to have ready to serve when my husband returned home from work. I promise he did get fed folks.
After months and months of loosing my mind with no plan and eating everything from sandwiches to cereal for supper, I finally came up with this calendar! [SQUEAL]! Life just got a whole lot easier!
Each month-end, I sit down with my monthly meal planning calendar and write out my evening entrees. On this calendar, even side items and dessert are included. The beginning of the week, meals are reviewed, a grocery list is generated according to the meal plan and BAM- “Dinner is served, dear”.
Each night after dinner, I prep for the following evening. Life can be made simple with a little planning which is one element in this new found friend called multitasking.
It not only works for me but DanielBoy seems to know what we are having each night.
I know what you are thinking… What if you end up out to eat or don’t feel like that is on the daily calendar – Thats fine just swap days or take it off completely and use it for next month. Before you know it – you will be living without any dinner dilemmas. Also note I started the week on Monday instead of Sunday. I know a lot of you have busy plans on the weekends and may not want to be locked into a meal plan. Maybe start off leaving the weekends blank. Its up to you just give it a few months to see what works best for you.
Make sure to download the monthly meal planning calendar now.
