The macaron is considered to be the jewel of french pastries in Europe. Finding these jewels here in the states is few and far between. Just to look at these babies is completely enjoyable.
There is a quality of life the French have perfected and this household is about to experience it together. This way of life requires you to slow the pace and take the time to do things right, using high quality ingredients. In America, we are in a hurry for everything. Haven’t you noticed how everyone says “real quick”. Instead, we should allow ourselves a little luxury and slow down the pace of life long enough to appreciate the small things.
Searching for these babies has been tough so my husband decided to just whip some up. These French sweet treats are made with egg whites, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder, and gel food coloring. Macarons or macaroons as they are called in America, are round, soft shell delights that fit into the palm of your hand. They have a light-crispy outside with a creamy filling of your choice. We went with blackberrry-cream cheese and strawberry-cream cheese.
Making these lovely treats are time consuming but well worth it. This was Daniel’s first attempt and I’m pretty sure he nail-it (Uh, we ate them all!) Needless to say, we will be asking him to make them again it was such a perfect tasty jewel. Maybe you could try this with your family. It is really a fun baking experience for the whole bunch. There is a lot to do and prep such that everyone can be involved. Here is the link we used to help us. This Dishin’ With Di video gives you step by step instructions.
