Life is Good Living on a Mini-Farm

As smiley faced “Jake” says,  “Life is a good”.   I live on a “wanna-be” farm.  Now, before you go thinking it is acres and acres of land, know that it is less than 3 acres but the area is land-locked and the 9 acres next to me and on the other side is wooded, and will remain that way because of those who own it.  So for all practical purposes, I live nestled in the middle of some 25 acres with the city lights at my back door.   I can “almost” (3 miles away) see the lights of the Winn Dixie grocery store shining through the woods from afar.  The land has been zoned “OR” (open rural) for years and when the girls were young, we had dogs, cats, bunnies, horses, goats, geese, chickens and common rats and reptiles. Of course, even now we have the dogs, bunnies, birds, chickens, rats and snakes! Yikes on the rats and snakes!

There is a pond in the back yard and based on the rain flow, it can be completely full to overflowing or quite low.  Right now it’s quite low.  When the girls were young they swam in the pond, had parties where kids jumped and screamed and had oh such a good time.  Now,  large frogs enjoy the pond which bring large serpents and I don’t want you to think bad of me but I kill the poisonous ones if I get the chance. I’m sorry but they scare me!  The ones here are very  long, very round and have venom like crazy. How do I know? They have a triangular head as big as my hand!(exaggerating here). I keep rakes and shovels around each corner of the house just in case.

North East Florida has been my home all of my life.  I moved away to go to college at Florida State University but even then it was in Florida so this area is pretty much what I know.  For a summer twice, I lived in Georgia to do some mission work and teach for a couple of weeks but otherwise, I’m certainly a Florida gal.

There is no reason I would want to leave the life I live. God has had me right where He’s wanted me and I’m completely blessed.   I’m sure things might could get better but I don’t know how so I’m going to go ahead and keep livin’ right here.  “Life is Good Ya’ll” as a Chick Down South would say!
