Having a baby requires a lot of fortitude! Along with that, a lot of important things are needed to make a new mother “nest” in the hospital. Oh, they give you everything you need in terms of hospital items but home away from home is oh so much better so prepare for the stay. Here’s what items to bring to the hospital at delivery:
1. Towel and Washcloth – There is nothing better than your own towels from home. The hospital uses the same towel in the bathroom as they do for the birth of your precious one (I know too much information but hey, someone needs to tell you).
2. Robe – Once you get out of the shower and want to lather on the lotion your own robe will definitely come in handy.
3. Breast-feeding tank tops – I adore the Basics Felicity Slimming Nursing Cami 7402– This cami can be worn under anything. The slimming part is my favorite. I purchased mine at Target for around $25.
4. Loose fit pajama pants- Yes, you no longer are carrying 6-10 extra pounds but you are still carrying pounds so just be ready to be comfy.
5. Boppy – A “Boppy” is a pillow made for breast feeding and holding the baby. The Boppy is going to be your best friend over the coming months so go ahead and bring it so you and baby can begin to love it together. It is also wonderful when relaxing on the couch holding your bundle of joy and the Boppy will help with that.
6. Drinks and snacks -A goodie bag and refrigerator with snack items in it will be good for visitors, family members , your hubby and certainly you may want to sneak a snack or two. Sometimes sandwich items such as sliced deli meat and cheese can be helpful too. Definitely zero in on your husbands favorite snacks. He will love you for your thoughts of him during this time. Too, you will save you lots of money in snack machine fees.
7. Swaddle blankets – The hospital gives you a new blanket everyday but bring a few blankets you brought from home. This will not only be precious for those picture moments but also give your little one comfort smells of a place he or she will soon call home. If you have a dog grab an extra, wrap the baby in it the 1st night then take home for your furry pet to smell. That baby is going to come home in just a few days and your animals will be more welcoming with a familiar smell.
8. Bows or hats – Most everyone takes pics of the new baby so why not give them that extra photo op…Precious!
9. Dress for returning home – A comfy dress or outfit purchased before you went into the hospital will put that special touch on your family photo as you possibly coordinate mama, daddy and baby.
10. Pillow with colored pillowcase – Bring the comfort of your own home to your room by having your own pillow and don’t forget to use a colorful pillow case. This will help your things not to get mixed in with the hospitals.
