Day 9 -(Writing 31 Days Project)

Those who study personality types say that a person leans towards either being an introvert, one who thinks to talk or an extrovert, one who talks to think. I tried to tell my family one time that I was really an introvert and they laughed so obviously, they see me as a “talk to think” person but I see myself as one who thinks about what I say. Now I’m not trying to confuse you about this introvert- extrovert thing because I know this “type” stuff has some validity to it.

Both of my children are opposites. One talks “a lot” and the other not- so-much ( but has an opinion, don’t let her fool you!).

It was Carl Jung who basically kicked off the whole personality craze helping folks better understand who they were and then some years later, Isabel Meyers took Jung’s theory to a higher level developing a 16 type preference chart. On that chart, I’m an ENFP- (Extrovert-Intuitive-Feeling Person- Percepting type).

“Warmly enthusiastic and imaginative. See life as full of possibilities. Make connections between events and information very quickly, and confidently proceed based on the patterns they see. Want a lot of affirmation from others, and readily give appreciation and support. Spontaneous and flexible, often rely on their ability to improvise and their verbal fluency.”(myersbriggs.org)

Both introverts and extroverts play a huge role in relationships and there is no right or wrong personality type. Both introverts and extroverts can be anything they want to be however, each tend to choose professions and activities best suited to their “type”.

For example, I enjoy speaking to a crowd. In fact, I’m energized by this activity whereas, there are those in my Sunday School class that often take me aside and remind me not to call on them to speak aloud or do things that put them in the spotlight. Certainly there are out front and behind the scenes folks.

Most importantly in this “type” thing is to be who you are and be happy in it. Be settled in whatever preference you choose for you alone can be who God intended you to be.
