The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us,not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9

In the book, Then Sings My Soul, the author tells of the life of Robert Robinson, the songwriter of “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”.  He writes about an event whereby he and his friends visited a fortune teller on a whim.

Knowing it was somehow wrong, he begged his friends to go hear the great evangelist George Whitefield. The year was 1752.  For three years, Whitefield’s words nagged at Robinson and he was gloriously transformed at the age of 2o.  He soon entered the ministry and it was then that he wrote this age-old hymn that has touched the souls of many through the years.

Come, thou Fount of every blessing,
tune my heart to sing thy grace;
streams of mercy, never ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
mount of thy redeeming love.

God is our refuge and strength. He is there for each of us and wants our lives to reflect His character.  If we will hear Him and follow Him, He will save us from ourselves and transform us to be like Him.

And how is He?  Kind, good and long-suffering….

Let’s live for Him daily.
