It’s safe to say that each of us have been disgruntled in our lives at one time or another. We’re human and sometimes things don’t sit well causing us to feel dumped on, unappreciated, taken for granted or a million other feelings bringing on a disgruntled attitude.
Even the happiest people in the world experience this at some point or even many times over the course of a lifetime. While you may feel like the lone ranger here, you’re not. This is normal in life. Every human being has experienced some event or thing in their life to cause one to be disgruntled.
There are a myriad of reasons that a person might become disgruntled. Just based on the definition alone it can be that a situation or person becomes unsatisfied for one reason or another. Maybe a relationship or marriage has gone sour or a friend betrayed another or worse a family member was wronged by another. Being discontented or disgruntled can be caused by many reasons.
From one being dissatisfied and discontented comes resentfulness. One party resents another for an action, inaction, over-action, over-reaction and the list goes on. It can become so bad that one side could become “fed-up”, unhappy and unappreciated to the point of silence.
The Lord created emotions. These feelings are there to help cope with the events in life. There are emotions of love, care, bliss, worry, fear, anger, sadness, guilt, shame, joy, surprise and more. These broad range of feelings change the body and mind and bring about various behaviors.
Are feelings of being disgruntled ever justified? Certainly and not only justified but needed in order to help a person move through the difficult times at hand. Without pain, for example, one may not ever realize there was a cut. Without blood in a wound, one may not realize the severity of the severed limb. Without the emotion of being disgruntled, a person may not be able to see a situation right in front and be able to approach it correctly. These feelings of emotion can work both for and against both parties in a disagreement. Often being disgruntled helps a person wrestle through the rights and wrongs of a situation to determine what to say, do and how to respond.
When Jesus saw the money changers in the church. He was angry ; disgruntled that they would use His Holy house as a place to exchange goods. He threw the tables over in disgust. Jesus was sinless so, there is a way to be up front about things, firm in action and yet not sin.
Most importantly, we must seek God’s guidance in our lives as things that worry us or cause us great concern come about. Our lives cannot be expected to be perfect and with no issues. But, when we experience times of concern, dissatisfaction, unrest and disgruntlement, we must ask God for guidance.
Easier said than done but a must in any case.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
