Getting Clear Directions From Those Who Can Us Help Find Our Way is Important!
Some years ago when three generations of us were all traveling in one car to see family in Georgia, one of the car riders saw the “South Carolina” border sign and exclaimed “Yay, we’re finally in South Carolina!” In unison, we all said, “Yay, South Carolina!” All of the sudden we realized, we had gone too far. We were completely off track from our travel plans. That was when the questioning began. “How did we miss the turn?” “Are we far from where we’re going?” “What time did the event begin?” “Will we make it on time?” “ Shouldn’t we call them to let them know we’re basically lost?” “ What to do now?”
There are times in our lives that we lose direction in raising chickens. Our farming situation needs another look. We get too many chickens. Our roosters are out of balance with the number of hens. There are too many runs or not enough. There are holes in the tops, sides or bottoms of the chicken area. Gates and doors need attention. Our coops need repair. We need this and that!
It’s a big deal raising chickens. Sometimes it gets overwhelming. All of these things and more can be so true but yes, we can turn around the situation or problem and get back on track. There are several things that help us as we move through our farming days. First, we depend on the home front crew. After that crew involvement, we depend on those who meet our needs such as vendors of various kinds.
In our area there are several really good places for getting supplies and goods that are needed. I depend on these experts to help me when I have questions, when things go wrong or I get off the beaten path. Here are a few of the vendors that I use to help with Chicks Down South.
Ace Hardware- Hagan Ace Hardware is located just down the way from me. There, I find everything I need from medicated assistance, farm supplies and feed of every kind. Ace carries feeders, barrels, buckets and more.
Home Depot– There are several Home Depots in our area and often the need for hinges, nails, wood supplies and wire is needed when dealing with chickens and their needs.
Lowes is a huge hardware store in our area. In fact it is a stone’s throw from our farm so it is a go-to-store for a variety of needs including everything from farm equipment to building materials.
Tractor Supply is located across the river from us. Every single month several trips to this vendor has been on the schedule. From chicken food to feeders to watering cans, Tractor Supply is a huge help. I’ve even bought Sloggers at T. S.
