Many say that Buster, our rooster is mean. I say he has “character”. He actually seems to care absolutely nothing about us but we still love him. There are those who say he needs to be sold or traded for another but in truth, he has “character”. Why would we get rid of character?
When he is let out of his coop in the morning, he literally “ b u s t s” out and comes toward whoever is in his eye’s path. He really would like to flog or spur whoever is there and edges towards the fence in hopes he might get through. If he did get through it would not be good! He would flog. He would spur. He would edge towards whoever is in his path!
Sometimes I catch him. He’s pretty easy to catch if the small red rake is used. I am careful with it. There is no reason to hurt him but by putting the red rake in front of him, he sort of backs away from it and that is when he can be forced to squat and be caught. I like to catch him and rub his neck. He doesn’t change personalities when I catch him. He is still wanting to flog and spur but I hold him tight for my safety and those around me.
Today, we went out and caught him. He was still “down to business” but we loved him and cuddled him just the same.
He’s mean I guess but most of all he’s a protector of his hens and yes, he has “character”.
