An Extrovert and Introverts Response to the COVID-19

Yesterday and today were fun times with my 2 adult girls and a grandson.  We ate at a restaurant, went to the St. Augustine fort and enjoyed going to the lighthouse in the Nation’s Oldest City.  What fun was had by all.

While touring and spending time out and about, I noticed stark differences in both girls’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Both found different things frustrating but on the opposite ends about social distancing,  wearing masks and responses to people in general.

My oldest daughter, who is extremely friendly and gregarious was wanting to get smiles and confirmation from others but the face masks literally  “masks” those responses.  When the opportunity presented itself, she was so happy to talk at length with the front porch security guards, the cashiers and servers.  Their conversations were fun, enlightening and lengthy.

My younger daughter, on the other hand preferred dealing with events and people at a distance.  She preferred to walk far more than 6 feet from any person in her path and certainly did not carry on any conversation with the woman on the porch, or the lady at the cash register.  In fact, at the restaurant, she chose to sit closer to the wall and allow the older daughter to order.  While visiting the lighthouse,  the salesman at the snack counter asked her about the virus.  She said loud and clear, “No sir, I’m so happy to get away from people and finally, no hugging.”  Immediately from the mouth of daughter one came, “Oh, I miss hugging so much!”  Meanwhile, the grandson, child of my oldest daughter was engaging with a random family he had just met on how to take pictures with his tripod.

Certainly, “the nut does not fall far from the tree”, as they say.
