Marietta Modl and I are members of a Facebook site called “Chicken Art”. Last month, I was admiring some of her artwork and asked if she wouldn’t mind sharing a bit about her life with you so that a face, name, and her artwork could be put together. I know that many of our readers enjoy chicken art and thought you might be interested in Marietta’s work. She can actually draw your chickens and roosters if you’re interested.
Marietta was born in a small own in Austria on the Bavarian border. She now resides in the beautiful Snoqualmie Valley, Washington in the United States of America. While she enjoys her artwork and painting time, she works part-time in a nursing home. When she paints, her favorite subjects are animals. She gets inspiration to paint from the internet and photographs. Her favorite medium is acrylics. Being self taught, she is learning and growing each time she puts brush to canvas.
As a child, Modl loved art but did not really get serious about her gift until about 4 1/2 years ago when she joined a group with a friend at a senior center. Painting makes her happy she says and puts a smile on her face. In 2015, she had her first show and loved the reactions to those who viewed her work. At this time she is painting with acrylics and can spend anywhere from 3-4 hours per piece to 10-15 depending on the size of the artwork. While she enjoys many artists, her favorites are Van Gogh and Monet. She appreciates Andrew Wyeth for his simplicity and loves the work of a wonderful emerging artist, Kathleen Dunphy.
Modi has two grown sons, 3 grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter. She lives with her husband and her wonderful cat, Rudy.
