The Clean Up- A Family Affair
We’ve had a tropical storm here on the Northeast Florida coast. Winds were upwards 35 MPH. I didn’t actively experience them as I was fast asleep when the storm came through in the night. The following day though, my son-in-law was over in a flash to help with the clean up. He was even willing to go into Shaq’s run to get out the huge tree limb that had fallen in the run.. I’m so thankful it fell in the run and not on the chicken coop. That could have been disastrous.
Clean up after events like this are a family affair. Everyone is outside picking up branches and clearing way the debris . It’s all part of involvement on the family farm and it takes everyone. Here are a few tips about after-the-storm clean ups:
1. Assess the damage with an open mind. Determine what you can and cannot do the first day after the storm.
2. Communicate your needs to the family members who can help. Discuss the task at hand and the time frame needed for completing it.
3. Make a list of the equipment and tools needed for clean up. Talk about who will bring or be responsible for what.
4 If you can, provide lunch for the family and enjoy this time together. It’s all part of farming.
