Yesterday I was talking to a lady about her job and she indicated that someone she knew was under investigation for posting negative things on Facebook about the company in which she works. Yikes! The woman said there was talk that the employee could be fired for trashing the company and using profanity-laced words. I immediately thought, “Well, yes! Of course!” We all know that FB is never the place to share personal work opinions. Right? We all know that but it is so easy for any of us to get caught up in the moment and post something we later regret.
There are those who do this and don’t seem to care what others think but most people I know seem to think this through. I’ve known friends to post something and later remove it.
We’ve probably all had times we’ve rethought our posts, words or photos shared. The real thing that should be considered is jeopardizing a person’s job and certainly besmirching our names.
Many businesses have a policy regarding social media but even that may not cover something a person may post. I’ve often wondered the possible repercussions of various posts because it is obvious from the business side, the management wants to protect the company and employees. Too, it matters what perception a boss has of an employee. It could affect the relationship and even employment.
There are folks who post inappropriate words on their page or captions that are off-color such as body actions, curse words and such. Is there any wonder what their boss thinks of that? People form opinions based on their mind-set shared on Facebook. This is an important aspect that we should all consider before we post.
It is always a good reminder to consider what the Bible says about our words:
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
So, as we consider Facebook posts, what about the ultimate boss of us all- The pure and righteous God of Heaven? Is He pleased with what we’ve posted on our Facebook page? Can he visit our page or because of our lewd words, must He turn away?
“There is none righteous, no not one” but God, in His righteous can come into the life of a person and present righteousness through Him.
I’m going to really give better thought to every post on my own social media sites. How about you?
