Journaling is something I’ve done for years and I’ve found that most people who love to write, enjoy writing in a journal. People write in journals for various reasons. Personally, to write in a journal can be a way to document my life and because I am a writer, I feel free getting my thoughts and feelings on paper. Who knows why though. It’s in me to do!
There are those who want to keep a journal but don’t feel they are writers. One friend of mine has many filled journals of church service journaling while the preacher preaches and of Bible studies written in person journals. Yes, she indicates she does not enjoy writing so for her, this is a way to learn by writing down information.
Another friend of mine cuts and pastes different and various things in a journal including recipes and the like. So, a journal can be a personal thing. It does not have to be straight writing.
In thinking of the new year and the possibilities for what you might consider using a journal, here are 10 things you might consider:
Bible Studies-Writing out the studies of God’s Word is something that a lot of journalers do. When reading God’s Word and then thinking about personal events and feelings related to the study, many people find that writing it out helps make the study more personal.
Day-to-Day Writing– Someone who does day-to-day journaling writes every day. The writing does not have to contain step by step information or even every event in the day-to-day life but that one takes time out of each day to write something and date it by day.
Doodling- A lot of people enjoy drawing stick people or if they are really good at art, drawing their life’s instances. Doodling can include anything from writing about things with drawn pictures or just pictures and clip art in the journal.
Drawing- Many journal people draw detailed things in their journals including family portraits, places they go and the like. If the artist in you wants to draw then go for it!
Family Facts- Writing about family is important and can impact the future. Knowing who you are and from whence you came is often life changing. Too, keeping these type writings for children is a way to keep the history alive in the minds and hears of family members.
History- History is a subject that keeps the order of occurrences. The Gospels are a type of history and tell the story of Jesus. You may want to keep a history of your family, job, work-place events.
Love Letter Writing- Those who are in love with love often use a journal to express their love for others. This type of journaling gives a person opportunity to share deep down feelings for the loves in their lifes. (Remember this is find and good but don’t leave someone you love out! That would not be good! Ha!) LOL!
Poetry- There are folks who have a penchant for writing rhymes and various types of poems. Poetry can be for you, someone you have a special love for or about nature or inanimate things of the earth. Many famous writers used a journal in which to write their famous works.
Songs- Song writers often take time out of every day to use a journal to jot down songs and share those ditties that others might enjoys singing.
Weather and Current Events- This may seem odd but I know of several people that keep a journal of not only their person lives but the headlines of the day and the weather information. This type journal will be a treasure-trove for the person who wanted to know what life was like in 2016 because it will not only include personal events but also what the weather may have been like.
There is no stopping a journaler and if you’re not one to use a journal, you might like to jot things in a calendar. If you want to share your thoughts, get that journal and share whatever your heart has to document. You might want to convey, doodle, document, draw, record, or write. Do what you want. It’s your journal although when you’re gone, it will fall into the hands of someone else so be sure you wanted the story told.
