“Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact: Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use.
Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again. “
Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs, the mastermind behind the Apple computer, iPod, i Pad and the IPhone once said that “ once you learn that everything around you…was made up by people that were no smarter than you”… you’ll never be the same”.
There is a lot of truth in that. Each of us can make a difference and in Job’s words, “influence it”. We each can influence our world in our own way and using our own smarts.
Below are 5 ways each of us can make a difference in our circle of influence:
1. Touch the Lives of Our Family Members– My older sister is a great example of this. Just in the past 2 weeks, she has traveled to North Carolina to spend time with my brother and his wife, driven a couple of hours to spend time with our cousins in Georgia and has come down to Florida to spend the night with me. There are many ways to impact family members: Bake for them, call them, contact them, vacation with them, visit with them in their home, or write them.
2. Keep in Contact With Friends– A friend of mine, Renee is the best example that I know of keeping up with her friends. She has a ton of friends and spends a lot of her time calling them, dropping by their homes, supporting their efforts ( She came to my store opening last July) and following up on what is going on in their lives. The scripture says to have a friend, you must be a friend.
3. ‘Have an idea that you would like to pursue- Do it! You can make a difference in the area that your head and heart takes you. There are those who think about doing things and then there are those who do things. If you want to impact your world in a certain area, go for it but you must go for it. You can no longer sit and wait if you really intend to impact. You must do.
4. Realize that God has a plan for You-The Holy Scripture teaches that God goes before us if we are truly His. Therefore, if you are in His will and following His Word, He has a plan for your life. God has gifted His own and He has a plan for your future that will not harm you but will indeed cause you to prosper.
5. Do what You Love- It will never do for you to spin your wheels doing something that you do not enjoy. To be successful, you must do what you love and do what you know. What is it that you know and love… Then do it!
