Designing the perfect nursery for the precious-to-be can be so much fun. It can also be a little exhausting especially if you are not a designer, so to speak. I have a little secret to share will all of you. It’s temporary decor. In no time your sugar booger will be a “big kid” helping you redesign his room. Here are a few tips for you to achieve the nursery of your dreams and remember. It’s a matter of taste so do what you like. This is your “dream” nursery.
GET AWAY FROM THE BABY SECTION
Yes, finding your essentials like bottles, blankets, and diapers are needed but for now let’s think decor. Having a theme or just sticking to the basic blue and pink is not the answer, contrary to popular belief. You can go with the traditional if you like but sometimes stepping outside of the box is a way to really compliment your own desires. And, don’t be afraid to hit a few garage sales or thrift stores for side tables, dressers or lamps. Each can be painted or altered for your needs and you can repurpose later if you want. Regarding color, you may choose to go more neutral or mixing and matching bright colors and patterns. It does not have to be blue or green or pink but can certainly be variations of your own taste.
KEEP IT CLEAN
A little goes a long way therefore do not over clutter the area. One day that room is going to be full of clutter, toys, baby needs and so enjoy the basics from the start. Pick up small special items that remind you of family or your faith. Grab things that will make the area feel cozy and warm like a fluffy rug, pillows, wall decor, or bean bag stool. There are several ways to keep the clutter to a minimum: Large store bin laundry hampers, toy organizers, and lots of baskets.
MAKE IT SIMPLE
Grab the items you need and not just want like the crib and dresser. After placing those items in your nursery decide what else will fit. Changing tables are not a necessity although they are nice but they do take up a bit of room. You can always use the top of dresser for a changing table to save space. Organize the closet to help maximize space.
This is my doll baby’s room, which I just love. I went with neutral colors giving it a more adult like feel. I figured if there was ever a time to decorate his room the way I wanted it would be now. He is 16 months old and although few things have changed in his room, (no more rocker) the decor remains the same. I am sure in the near future when we have to upgrade to a big boy bed there will be big changes.
