Summer is fading fast and I am going to enjoy the free or almost free events that have been scheduled all over my city. What about you in yours? Let’s kick this summer out with a full calendar so the words “Mommy, I’m bored” are a thing in the past.

Here are a list of low-cost activities

Public Library

Libraries are a great place to start! A majority of public libraries around the country offer free story/art activities. These programs encourage children to read and keep them in a “class room” environment throughout the summer months. During the summer they also have several extra programs to keep your children busy.As we fade out our summer, this is a great way to prepare your child for the up and coming school or day care setting.

Many summer learning programs offer a free book or prize of some sort after reading so many books. BE sure to grab onto that one if the opportunity arises.

Summer lunch programs provide free lunches to children under 18 years old so check out your area for access to these type events.

Visit PublicLibraries.com for more information of actives in your area

Computer Learning

Many children are attached to tablets and phones as much as their parents. We tend to have our mobile devices at arms reach if not in our hands at every given moment. Let’s face it, the love for technology is real these days. Allowing your children helpful interactive websites to keep their minds going might just be the thing for a little R&R this summer. Try these sites on for size. Please note that there are those that do cost and some most likely offer a free trial membership to get you started.

Help My Kid Learn

Sesame Street

Starfall

How Stuff Works

National Geographic Kids

Join the YMCA

The Y is so much more than a gym. They provide youth enrichment, swim, sports, workout, health, wellness classes and more. Their rates are income-based so you have no reason not to give it a try. Tons of kid programs are available which is like free childcare as you get your own fitness on.

Local Parks

The summers are hot here in Florida and that heat extends into the fall for us so visiting an outdoor park can be rough. Plan your visited for the mornings and wear those lovies out before that afternoon nap time. Search the web to find parks that you may not be aware. Make sure to search a little outside your area also. Here are two website I like to use: Find You Park, Mom Maps and National Park Services.

Chain Store

Tons of national chain stores offer free or inexpensive children actives. The catch, don’t spend too much while you are in house (that’s their plan ya’ know!) Make sure to checkout store sites for age restrictions and schedules.

  1. Lowes and Home Depot offer free weekend  workshops for kids
  2. Craft stores, such as Michaels, hold free project classes
  3. Whole Foods offers cooking classes for low cost once a week
  4. Ikea has a playroom where you can drop your children off and shop or even have lunch
  5. Apple Camp, offers a free 3 week youth program

Cheers to making this summer fade-out fun and banking that cash flow.
