The standard of today’s women has changed. These social changes brought on by the women’s movement have led to a lot of confusion. Too, women entering the workforce brought about changes in the family structure but if there was ever a time in history to know our role as women, it is today.  This “role” does not mean we have to loose our voice or identity.  The “outdated” standard seems old and unbending  but what is commanded by God should be our desire.

It is very important that we listen and have Biblical understanding of our role.  This will allow us to know how we are to behave as a wife in God’s world. I’m no expert and I myself am learning.

For example, three weeks before Christmas my mother texted asking, “What will you be preparing for Daniel’s co-workers during the Christmas holidays?  Confused, I texted “?”.    Of course, then we had a conversation and my thoughts to her were, “I don’t even know them Mom”. Quickly she quoted:

Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.”  Proverbs 31:23;

Then she told me that she had fresh oranges just taken from the trees in the yard.  “Would you like them to put with bags, treats and baked goods for him to share?”  Stopped dead in my tracks by the scripture, I said, “Give me the oranges, Mom”.

Long story short, I stayed up baking cookies and made a pretty cookie & fruit tray for Daniel and his co-workers. He seemed excited.  I enjoyed the entire process and his co-workers received a nice spread to enjoy.

Now, here I am, days later realizing that my behavior affects how others see my husband. Isn’t God wise!  DanielBoy’s cookie & fruit tray may be the thing to win a non-Christian to Christ, I later thought and it was a way for me to honor Daniel,  which I was happy to do.

Being a wife has so many challenges with cooking, cleaning, washing and all of the other family duties but Proverbs 31:23 lays it clear for me.  I  can help my husband in more ways than just cooking, cleaning, washing and the like.  I can help him  be  “known in the gates”.  He already has my heart. I can help him be loved by others too!  How ’bout you?
