What About Rewards In Heaven?

IMG_1612This week, a friend had some envelopes in the car and said, “Please help me remember to mail my bills”. I took note but as the day went along, a mailbox did not present itself and we ended up back at the starting destination with the envelopes in the same spot. As I got out of the car, I grabbed them said, “Hey, I’ll mail these on my way” and off I went with them in hand.

When I got to the neighborhood mailbox, I shuffled through them to be sure each had a stamp. I do that with my owl bills so it was a natural behavior. To my surprise every letter was to a charity. I had to smile. “Bills”, I was told. Immediately, I thought of the rewards in heaven for those who remember others in need.

“For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink IN MY NAME, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.”
Mark 9:41, KJV

The ultimate giver is Jesus and that is why we love Him. The Bible says that we love Him because He first loved us. He gave us His love. He loved us so much that he gave His life for us.

Giving is something that people who know Him do and it’s nothing they have done, it’s always what He did. People of Christ give because the God of the Bible lives in them and thus they give Him.

My shuffling through those letters was such a huge testimony for me. I want to be a giver and not for reward but because I know it’s in each of us to help other people.

What about you?
