Tennis is one of the greatest games of all time. It can be a team sport or it can be an individual game and importantly, it is a game which costs little to play.

Racquets can be purchased for little cash at garage sales if a one is really low on money and even pretty inexpensively at retail stores like Walmart and Target and then all you need is a ball or two. Even Walgreens and CVS offer deals on racquets and balls.

Tennis courts are provided free by all cities and are even available by ball clubs, apartments and of course in exclusive organizations for a cost.

In the game of tennis, anyone can play and most will have a load of fun trying. But I warn you if you’ve never attempted the game. There will be a lot of running to fetch the ball so the best thing to do it bring along a lot of balls to save yourself on those first days on the court. Here are 5 tips to get you going if you’re new to the game or if you need a refresher for winning:

1. Purpose to Have Fun– There is no reason to go out on the court intending to conquer the world. Just go for the fun of it. Decide before you attempt this that you’re simply going to play tennis to enjoy the event and maybe to get some exercise ( because you’re certainly going to do that!).

2. Go With Someone Who Has Either Patience to Help You Learn OR is at the same level as you- The game of tennis cannot be mastered in one or two times on the court. To get “good” at tennis, you either need a teacher OR you need time so, go with a teacher who can coach you OR go out with someone who is just as pitiful as you are in terms of being able to hit the ball.(Again refer to number 1).

3. Play Tennis Weekly or on a Schedule- If you’re serious about learning, you must play on a regular basis. You cannot go periodically and “learn” the game. Once you learn form and such it will be like riding a bike and you will be able to gain back your skill set but until you get a skill set, you need to be consistent in play.
(Again, refer to number 1).

4. Use You Tube to Gain Skills if you don’t have a coach. Learning to play tennis is like any other sport, it takes skills, understanding of the game, form and know-how. If you don’t have coach, then use You Tube to help you find your game. Simply go to You Tube and type in “tennis lessons” and learn how to hold the racquet, hit the ball, form a backhand, forehand, serve and volley strategy. (Again, refer to number 1).

5. Wear Tennis Attire if you’re going to really play the game. You don’t have to dress to the nine to do this but it would be good to have the basics of tennis wear. If you don’t know what that is, Yahoo it and again, refer to number 1.

Have fun on the courts.
