Summer coleus provide needed fall displays for home decor.

Every spring, coleus are one of my go-to plants and I plant a healthy amount of them. The thing I know about this hearty tropical is that it comes in a wide range of sizes, colors, and shapes.

Coleus are known as annuals enjoying warm climate with good drainage. Coleus thrive in the full sun. Coleus can do just fine in a medium type sunny area too. They show their colors, vivid and strong when the hot sun beats down on them. And, they do well when the variety of styles and shapes are planted together in one display. Beautiful!

In my photograph here, these cuttings will grow roots and easily be placed in a rich soil pot to bloom for yet another beautiful display. Too, with just the bend of the stem beneath a growth knot, more plants can grow.  These are beautiful as the spring moves to summer and summer moves to the fall.

The coleus will grow tall and lean without pruning so it is important to keep the tops trimmed. While you’re at it just pot them to produce more of the same beautiful growth. This growing from cuttings is exciting because the gift of coleus keeps on giving.

Coleus come in a variety of colors and kinds from variegated, mariposa to trailing salamander. The textures of the coleus vary also from stem to stem.

I highly recommend coleus for a chicken yard because for one thing, chickens don’t tend to eat this plant and it can be left all around the yard for beauty and growth. And then, at the end of the summer, it can be brought in for fall displays and decor.

So, get you some coleus to have a rich and beautiful yard and inside addition. Coleus will not discourage you!
