At Chicks Down South, we’re all about preserving the past. We like old stuff. We relish the old quilt, the mason jar and the egg crate tables. Many of you are just like that. You enjoy it as well and why not, it represents days gone by and reminds us of often more simple times.

I think about pink lemonade in the mason jar and an outside swing made of rope and a slab of oak wood from the old farm limb. My favorite memories of my Papa’s in South Carolina was sitting by the old pot bellied stove eating Florida oranges and throwing the peelings into the fire. Ahhhh, the smell.

This past month, I had opportunity to travel to Weddington, North Carolina where I ran upon an old restored farm. There are things we can learn from the past. Here are some thoughts about this farm:

  1. Someone lived and breathed here
  2. Making things strong and keeping it nice helps preserve it for the future.
  3. It’s good to leave a legacy behind that others can enjoy.
  4. It’s important to think about the legacy you are leaving.
  5. If your path is not clean and upright, you still have time to correct it.
  6. God is our hope to resolving our past and creating our future.
  7. Live wisely so as to build a good heritage for not only  yourself but those in your circle of influence.  Maybe your place will be visited one day.
