All homes are unique but some are just incredible. I once visited the home of a family in Georgia that it seemed every small thing inside had a meaning. For example, the logs from the log cabin were taken from the Suwannee River and carried miles and miles with the family following along. Upon going into the house, on the immediate log inside, the photo of that day was marked by a paragraph about that important event and a family photo was framed in front of the logs.

Also on the inside walls of the home were small, medium and large shadow boxes that had things like a section of a fishing rod that belonged to a great, great grandfather and maybe a necklace placed strategically inside the window pane that had been in the family for years and years. When I visited the kitchen, I read on the wall some piece of history pertaining to the family. If I went down the hall, I found both handwritten and typed information along the wood that would indicate presence of a family member current or in days past. Upon going to the restroom, there were important heirloom-type wall hangings that pertained to the family in some way.

I had never seen anything like it. From child-framed artwork to shadow boxed memorabilia of the family history, it was really heartwarming and obviously well thought out. It was also a focussed family project because it looked as if all hands in the family had written or participated in the wall hangings in some way.

Throughout the house were shadow boxes of various sizes and notices, notes, handwritten dates of events and occurrences and more. It was certainly an effort designed to highlight the importance of their lives and events in their family.

Each of us could do a better job of highlighting our family and making our house a home. I want to do this myself. What about you?
