Pacifier Attack: Mommy Panic Mode: Backup Plan Fails

I am a passy lover. How about you? I’m not for the passy all-the-day long but certainly in order to get a baby to sleep. The pacifier soothes, consoles and settles the suckle in a young baby’s mouth.

As you know, not being able to find a pacifier when a baby is in need, puts us mommies into panic mode. There is nothing more frustrating than a crying baby and a missing pacifier. Where is it? What happened to it? Where in the world did it go?  Often, it’s as if it dissolves in midair. No matter how many we have, finding one at the beginning of a meltdown seems impossible.

Looking back, I laugh over the many panic-attacks caused by a silly piece of rubber (Uh, it was not funny or silly in those moments but).

So picture this!   Here I was in the dark nursery and my little one was just about to go to sleep.  I had already completed 150 squats (up and down bouncing motion because that’s what he likes) and about the time I feel his body go limp with sleep, but alas, the pacifier falls out! OH MY GOSH!!!! It’s dark, and I can’t see a thing!  I’m frantically  moving about the room feeling with my feet, trying all the while to keep him asleep, I try the jumping jack motion in hopes it will help.  Ten seconds goes by, but it feels more like ten minutes. I realize, it’s time to call for backup, so I look into the baby cam and signal help from my husband who’s supposed to be watching me put the baby down every night.

All the while looking for the pacifier and continuing my aerobic routine I wonder why the father of this child has not come in as we had planned. I’ve  gone over baby monitor sign language several times but to no avail. Finally,  I realize help is not on the way and I must look for another solution. Searching for another passy in the dark begins but the room is a size 12 x 12 so what are the chances?   This mission has failed. I open the door to the nursery to let a bit of light in and finally see the pacifier. Phew!

By now our little one is awake and ready for a little interaction so with that, I walk into the living room where I see hubby playing a video game and watching tv.

I can’t help but laugh over so many of these silly events that have happened. What I know is, I’m not alone.  I hear from other parents who have gone through similar things.  We all have these panic moments and wonder if we will ever get though them. Time really does move fast and what once seemed so frustrating is now a funny story. Life is so short and we only have one today at a time.  We must sit back and enjoy even those sleepless nights. One day, our little baby will one day not need to be rocked to sleep. Plus, they fall asleep eventually.
