Trying to think of special thing to do for a sibling’s birthday can be challenging. In my family birthdays are a week celebration, if not more. I am the older sister so you can imagine the yearly pressure I feel coordinating something. All that being said, this year, I chose a unique outdoor experience on Amelia Island. Amelia Island is located on the East Coast and has a beautiful beach and scenery. I thought it would be a great idea if we could enjoy a nice relaxing horseback ride along the beach. Amelia Island is part of the Sea Islands chain of barrier islands, on the U.S. state of Florida’s Atlantic coast. It has a history of Spanish, French, British and American rule. This wonderful town is located just 40 miles north of lovely Jacksonville, Florida. The island being so close to home for us made this an easy day trip. The horses are Tennessee Walkers and have a wonderful smooth gait. There is no experience necessary when booking your ride. The horses are gentle and seasoned trail horses. Upon arrival you will go through a small orientation and meet your trainers. When tour guides asks for your experience level, be honest. This will help them pick the very best horse for your riding pleasure. The fantastic ride lasts approximately one hour. The ride is a breathtaking experience. Guides are professional and very informative.
