Gave the Chicks A Good Talkin’ To!

chicks out

If you follow this post often, you’re aware that I’m a sort of newly retired educator who has begun raising chicks. One year ago, my grandson’s parents purchased him chicks for a photo shoot and then brought the birds to Grandma. Well, I have two inside birds (cockatiel and a parrot) whom I love (Buddy and Sunni) so the love for fowl was already there. When I was given a rooster and 3 hens, the next thing to occur was the building of a pen and a chicken run.   I was off to a new hobby. Who in the world knew it would become a real love?

Within this year, I have 4 runs with 27 yard birds including a rooster and my son-in-law is in the process of building me a real chicken coup with 5 nesting boxes. Next month 25 chicks will be shipped from Texas in an overnight arrangement. The fun is just beginning!

Last month, I purchased 20, day-old chicks from a feed store down the road. I chose 5 each of the following breeds: Rhode Island Red(burgundy), Sex Link(black), Americauna (speckled and lay green eggs), and Buff Orpington(golden).

They are now looking like middle schoolers in size but still small enough to fit between the fence squares and today when I went out there to talk to them, they were out of the run and literally all over the yard. I scolded them and shooed them back into their safe haven and they didn’t understand why.

It made me think and consider how God is constantly shooing us and encouraging us to do His plan instead of ours “for our safety”. When we go outside of his safe area, (the world) we are subject to harm.

The chicks are back in their pen and within the confines of the run. May each of us see God’s Word as our plan for safety and stay within the bounds of His Word, the Bible.

“All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” 2 Tim. 3:16

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Matt. 4:4

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
