Do Not Let Thanksgiving Be The Only Time To Give Thanks

Three events today made me thankful. First, a few friends of mine watched their loved-ones deploy for 8-9 months. I was not one of those kissing someone goodbye at this deployment.  In these moments, I feel such emotion. I can’t help but feel their sadness as these tender times are displayed through facial expressions and many social media posts. I’ve been there and I know the feeling.

Secondly, I noticed a house with a tarp on it’s roof with bricks to hold it down. Our roof does not leak. (Cross your fingers!) But, seeing a home in need of major repairs with a large covering for protection made my heart sink for them as the rain’s headed our way.  I “get” that the large tarp and bricks to secure it would have to do for now, but I feel for them just the same.

Third, a dear friend visited speaking of falling in love. It was told with great happiness and I can certainly relate. As she spoke about her happiness and love for her husband, I just listened.   She told about future plans and great successes to come. I am so happy at the joy she has found.

It made me look over my day and give great thanks for things I have:

  1. Daniel being here and not deployed
  2. My house being in good condition
  3. A healthy child and happy home.

I am blessed with these things constantly,  yet many days I do not think to reflect on them. Why? There is so much to be thankful for. I should not wait until Thanksgiving to give thanks?  So, I won’t!

I’ve decided to write in my journal 3 things every day that I’m thankful for, over the next 30 days. I plan on getting my husband and family involved. How about you?  We could include others and talk about topics at dinner or form a chat circle.

P.S. Yes, that picture is of Josie on Thanksgiving in a turkey hat.. I’m even thankful she’s silly from time to time. (Sorry Mom! It won’t matter in 10 years! LOL!)
