Blessing God for His bounty.

Blessing God for His bounty.

Our entire life at the dining table or around an area of food, we thanked God for His blessings. This was common practice in our home. We acknowledged God’s giving us all that we had on our table. It was in my parents’ hearts to be sure that we were aware that it was by His hand that we had our blessings of food and nourishment and we prayed at all meals; even small ones.

In raising my own children, we prayed before meals and lived out in our home that all that He has to offer us is very good, just as it was at the creation for God said it was “very good”.

And, now, I have a grandson. While at the Sunday table we began to pray and he folded his hands and in reverence to God, his was learning how to give God glory for all that he has and will have.

It is by God’s hand that we are fed. There is nothing we do, lest we boast. He has provided our sun, rain, physical elements for growing food, physical strength to get to and from work and a mind for whatever task is at hand.  It is all be His hands that we are blessed and fed.

Every one of us should be careful to thank God at every opportunity for His blessings to us. Jesus Himself thanked His Father.

And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. Matthew 14:19

And there are other instances of prayer to God regarding our food.

Blessing God For Our Food

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Cor. 10:31

And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. Matthew 26:26

So, cheers and this time to God for His bounty.
