Maria Montessori was a child advocate at an early age. She felt that even children with disabilities could function at their best rate if taught in a systematic approach. Her belief system regarding learning was that if children had a teacher who allowed them to explore under specific guidance, therein would success be made.

In 1897 after speaking at the National Congress of Medicine in Turin, she wrote articles encouraging classes for the mentally disabled child and for teachers who train.  In the future, her adaptations in the classroom brought prominence to a systematic training system for all children which brought about success. Her thoughts were that students should have “freedom of movement within the limits of a set environment”.

Her work became so important that in 1913 there was an international training course in Rome.

Here is a list of age appropriate chores suggested by the Montessori program.
