Day 26-(31 Day Writing Project)Showing people our heart as well as our gifts is important. We all have our strengths and things we do best, but when I see a person have a strength and a passion for giving, it just really touches my heart and I know it’s of God.
A friend of mine is a master at order and organization. She has the ability to really “put it together”. When I attempt to “put it together”, the end result is so very lack luster but when she “puts anything together” is looks as if it came off of a magazine cover!
So it is with the Samaritans Purse Christmas boxes. Samaritans Purse is an organization that meets the needs of people all around the world. From natural disasters to human crisis concerns, this organization sends teams all over the world to help people and thereby show them the love of God through Christ Jesus.
I had an opportunity to go on a Samaritans Purse event when Hurricane Katrina swept through New Orleans and left her devastation. Teams of people spent weeks taking care of those affected. I was able to go to this event and although I was unable to stay the entire time spent some time with the hurting people of that area. It was an amazing thing to see the love of Christ as shown by Samaritan’s Purse workers.
One thing done by this organization is to provide Christmas boxes to children in poverty areas abroad. It is this event that my friend, Gail shows such compassion and care as she packs her boxes thinking of a boy and a girl who will open them in the months to come. She indicated that about $20 was spent on each box and she sends 4 to Samaritan’s Purse along with a $7. check for each box to provide shipping costs.
Herein is the love of Jesus shown. While each of us have strengths that we can share, it takes both our strengths and our love for Him to cause things to happen. It’s not enough to have a strength. It takes a heart to use that gift and talent.
The children who get her boxes are going to be so delighted at not only the about of the items in the box but of her heart that was put into it. It’s an example of God’s heart- His gift.
